From candle to bottle, finding vanilla again
By Brenda · Nosy Be · Published on · Updated on
I started with candles, blending waxes and oils. In my trials, beeswax gave a steadier flame and some oils kept the vanilla perceptible. I wanted to find that scent without a flame : I then made my vanilla and jojoba oils.
What my oil and wax blends taught me
- I compare the wax by how the flame behaves during my trials.
- I compare the oil by how I perceive the vanilla in the blend.
- For Bourbon vanilla, I look for a warm, woody profile.
These trials led to the desire to put the scent in a bottle, faithful to the vanilla.
Making room for vanilla with jojoba
I chose jojoba : in my blends, its scent seems subtle enough to let the vanilla be recognised. In the Nosy Be workshop, I also observe its texture and behaviour in the heat.
I look for a neutral base to bring out the scent of Nosy Be in the bottle.
The oils I work with
- Vanilla & jojoba : a soft, rounded base, faithful to the pod.
- Scent intense vanilla : a clear presence, faithful to the pod.
- Use daily : a quiet moment, a slow gesture, the right impression.
The thread connecting candle and oil
In my candles, I find vanilla develops differently depending on the room. With the oils, I seek the same clear scent in the foreground.
From my workshop to your choice
