Candeur Malagasy, an idea born from the scents of my island
By Brenda · Nosy Be · Published on · Updated on
After my studies in Nosy Be, I was looking for my path. Most jobs are inhospitality ; being rather shy, I preferred a tangible project where I could take time to experiment. I started with the scents of my island.
After studying, following the scents of Nosy Be
The scent ofylang-ylang in the morning, Bourbon vanilla at the market inHell-Ville, clove in the evening: I wanted to bring those scents home. I could find few objects that evoked my island of scents in this way.
First, wax, a wick and vanilla
I started with a candle, with its wick and flame to observe. I chose Nosy Be beeswax, coconut oil and Bourbon vanilla, seeking a steady flame and a fragrance close to the pod.
Giving the fragrance time to emerge
I sense the vanilla settling in through the trials. The room, air movement and burning time change that perception and guide my adjustments.

Finding vanilla in other everyday rituals
The oils followed, to extend the fragrance. I keep my reference points: materials I know, simple formulas and the pod’s scent for comparison.
The principles I keep in the workshop
- Faithfulness : warm, woody vanilla.
- Clarity : focused formulas, without frills.
- Local roots : beeswax bought in Nosy Be and small-batch production on the island.
- Calm : a fragrance that develops gradually.
From my trials to your choice
This story comes from my workshop in Nosy Be.
The scents continue in Nosy Be, my island of scents and From candles to oils: extending the fragrance.
